A to Zap! from Educational Resources is a simple Learn to Read program for preschool to first grade–aged children. Compared to the other products we reviewed, the graphics are low quality and the interactivity is limited.
The program presents rows of alphabet blocks lined on a shelf. You can hear the letter sound when you click on one of the blocks while a word and picture associated with the letter rises from a toy chest beneath the shelf.
After the picture associated with a letter appears, you can click on it for a learning activity. Some of the activities are more useful than others. For example, the telephone activity shows the inside of an address book with pictures of people and emergency vehicles. You can input phone numbers for real people, so your child can learn the phone numbers for important people in his/her life. There is also a big picture of a telephone for dialing practice.
A to Zap! has excellent customer service—they returned our email the same day. However, the program doesn’t come with a user guide and despite its simplicity, not all the activities are self–explanatory.
